Make spreadsheet stop jumping to top as I type

This is driving me insane!

As I start typing in a cell that is below the viewable area of the screen, the spreadsheet view jumps up to the top of the spreadsheet. This happens with every single cell.

Meaning, I'm working in an area of the spreadsheet to which I must scroll down to view. As soon as I click on the cell, the view jumps to the top of the spreadsheet. I type in the formula bar and scroll back down to the next cell.

Only way I can get around it is to reduce the zoom from 100% to 50%. Can't see anything at 50%.

I want the view to stay on the cells in which I'm typing. And stop moving up.

This has nothing to do with the Edit area in Preferences. The 'move in a certain direction after hitting enter' is de-selected.

I'd appreciate any help in saving my sanity.

I don't have a scroll lock button on my laptop. And if there is a key sequence to turn it on, I've never known it.

And I just checked Excel - the scroll lock light is not illuminated.

I appreciate the reply - thank you!

Should I note I've never had this problem in previous versions of Excel? Neither x.v or 2004.

Are you *clicking* the cell or are you *double*-clicking the cell?

If you're dbl-clicking (in order to edit in the cell) you're just missing
your target :) and hitting the cell border. This is a feature that's been
in Excel for years but seldom noticed by the typical user. It's designed to
move you rapidly to the top of a column. With today's higher resolution
displays, however, it catches a few by surprise.

It's actually less likely to happen if you *increase* your zoom so that the
cells appear larger, but you have 2 other options: Click the cell once then
use Control+U for edit mode or simply click the cell & go directly to the
Formula Bar to do your editing. Of course, if you're entering content for
the first time or replacing all existing content in the cell there's no need
to do either... Just click the cell once then type the content.
