Make table from Crosstab query.......etc etc

I've created a report which is based on a cross tab query. The only way
I've managed to make it work is to have the crosstab query go thru' a make
table query, then link the made table to the report. Now the actual data is
made up of the same type (ie, expenditure), however, I want to sub total the
expenditure into two distinct bits. I have tried to put the made table into
a query and put in a expression to create the sub totals however, access
doesn't like it and just falls over itself trying to run it, even though to
me it should work because it's just adding up the fields in a normal table.
For whatever reason the new query still seems to recognise the data is
coming from a cross tab query.

I've also tried to forget about using a new query and just put in the
expression in the report, but again it fails.

They'll probably be an answer to all this in VBS, but please note, I've no
experience of using VBS.
