Make Word Bigger than Screen Size

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have a Macbook and like to work on a word document using the "two pages" view. This is great except that I'm loosing an inch on either side of the screen made up of gray space and margins.

I'd like to be able to make the window bigger than the screen. Then I could park the margins and the gray space off screen and use all of my screen by enlarging my view of the documents without being forced to go back to viewing one page.

Currently Word won't let me make the window wider than the size of my screen. In other programs (Firefox for example) I can make the program as wide as I want so I assume it's a programing feature created within Word.

Anybody know of an option that I can unclick to be able to increase the width of Word larger than the screen?

There is a limit to how wide a Word window can be & there is no setting that
will change it. I'm sure there are numerous reasons but I've never had cause
to investigate it. For the overwhelming majority of users a window larger
than the display can accommodate provides no functional advantage & causes
more problems than it cures. Even if it could be done the highest Zoom
allowable in Two Page view is 100%, so the 'extra' space would be useless.

Bummer. I hope that those two things change at some point as it would be helpful.

At least I wasn't missing something obvious.

Thanks Bob.

Plug in a second monitor and Word will let you use the entire width. For
example, assume your second screen is on the left. Open the doc on the right,
and drag the whole thing to the left until, say, about three inches of the
left side is on the left screen. Widen the document, then drag it back. Part
will still be seen on the left, and a bit will be hanging off to the right,
in never-never land.

That's a pretty creative solution Tim and works well when I'm at home and working with my external monitor.

BTW CyberTaz, when I use my large external monitor I can zoom past 100% in two page view.

Hello Again;

BTW CyberTaz, when I use my large external monitor I can zoom past 100% in two
page view.

Well, yeah, it varies depending on screen size & resolution as to what
magnification is attainable in 2 page view -- But the only system mentioned
in any message of the conversation was a "Macbook". There was never a
mention of "large external monitor" so please forgive me for not assuming
you have one :)

no worries. I was writing about the problem at the office and so didn't bring up the external monitor. Did/do appreciate the ideas and input.

I'll still lobby for allowing Word to be pulled wider than the screen size so I can have more usable real-estate on the Mac when I'm in a coffee shop or at work!
