Making 2008 work like .X

I've got 5 books done in Word .X. I've created over a dozen STYLES.

Word 2008:

1) Is there a "book" template -- and I'm really not sure one would be of help since books are text with in-line graphics.

2) What would help me most are Element templates for Front Page, Overview, Table of Contents, Than you, TBC, Aurthor, Chapters, and Appendix. Does 2008 offer this?

3) Is there any way to copy my Word STYLES into Pages?

4) I like all my STYLES on a Toolbar over my doc. Can I populate 2008's Toolbar with my styles?

5) II like all font and formating functions on Toolbars. I do NOT want an extra Pallete taking up screen space on the side of my doc window. Can I make 2008's Pallete into a series of Toolbars like .X?

The basic answer to your questions is that Word 2008 is very like Word X.
It simply has reduced functionality and a better file format.

There is no book template: there is one on www.word.mvps.org that will work
just as well in Word 2008 as it does in Word X. So will your current
template.

Word 2008 does not have most of the elements you want, but they would not
help you if it did. You create those elements as part of using Word.

If you open a Word document in pages, the styles will come in with it. You
won't be able to use them in other documents.

You can populate Word 2008 toolbars with Styles, but you may find it more
convenient to use the Formatting Palette for that purpose.

You can put some (a few...) of the controls from the Palette onto toolbars,
but not all of them.

Hope this helps
