making a task with no time value

How can you put a task into your project that has no time value, but
has a dependency relationship with other tasks; for example, waiting
for the receipt of data from an outside office. In a project putting
in "0" days makes that task a milestone, and I certainly don't want
that either.

thanks.

Naomi:

Most folks will use a dependency with a lag value to represent wait times
between tasks. Would this work for you?

Hi Naomi;
There are a couple of little tricks in using the milestone feature.
First you can select (double click) the milestone symbol in your Gantt
chart and change it to another symbol, a bulls eye, for instance.

To get more creative, try this. In the Resource Name column, for this
Task, "write waiting for receipt". Again, double click the bulls eye
symbol on your Gantt chart. At the top of this window is the tab Bar
Shape & Bar Text, select Bar Text. The default is to see "start" in
the pull-down menu. Pull down the menu and select Resource Names.
Walah; when you click OK the message "waiting for receipt" shows up
next to the bulls eye.

What do you think?

I like both answers (not Rene and Rene but Rene and Gary...)

Question on time lag: I tried to increase and decrease time lag but it
seemed to hold onto a fixed number of days in parentheses. Is there a
good post describing this? I'm new to that.

thanks,
naomi
