Making an appointment with a contact

Ed S

I'm new to Outlook and must be missing something...if I want to make an
appointment with a contact, there doesn't seem to be a way to just choose the
contact; I have to type in the Subject and Location but it seems there should
be a way to select the contact (I'm used to ACT! if that helps).

Version of Outlook? Are you looking at the Contact first or in the process
of creating the appointment?

In the contact - Actions, New appointment
In the appointment - use the Contact linking field.

If you need more specifics, we need to know the outlook version.

It's Outlook 2007.

I don't see "New appointment" under Actions.

Sorry, but I don't understand the "contact linking field" remark.

Can't you usimply drag a contact to the Calendar to create a meetin
request?

In Outlook 2003 and earlier, at the bottom of the calendar form was
field labeled "Contacts" into which you could enter the names o
contacts. That would link the event to the contacts. That's th
"contact linking" field. In Outlook 2007, that field isn't displayed b
default. You need to enable it in Tools>Options>Contact Options

Yes, I can drag a contact to the calendar. But what I expect is the calendar
to show the contact name without me typing it in - that is, I would think it
is logical for me to simply type "meeting" and have the calendar display "Joe
Smith" as the contact for whom the meeting is with, and that I wouldn't have
to type "meeting with Joe Smith" in order for the calendar to display that
essential information. I know I can open the appointment to see that
information, but I don't think I should have to - what's the point of linking
the contact if the name doesn't show?

Maybe I'm being unreasonable but this seems like a fairly basic feature.

So you want the calendar to display [subject] (contact) when you link a
contact to an appointment in the same way it displays [subject] (organizer)
and [subject] (location) now?
