Making custom document elements and saving in main gallery?

Hi.
I am trying to set up a full set of branded templates for a work situation - basically various cover pages, headers and footers, styles etc.
Is there any way you can make templates and save them in the main gallery dropdown that currently holds all the default document elements?
much appreciated

Yes: I have not tried this, but I am told that any template files that
contain document parts will be loaded as document parts if you place the
templates in the following folder:
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/Document Parts/

Please let me know if that works. Be careful to avoid naming clashes.

Cheers

G'day John & Andy -

The bottom folder name, BTW, is "Document Elements", but No that doesn't
seem to work. There is a Document Elements.dotx file there which may or may
not be modifiable [1] - I don't know - but adding files to that folder
doesn't make them available in the Elements Gallery.

As far as I've determined so far, the User-created Publication Templates,
document templates & Themes go into:

~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates

where there are three separate folders named "My Publication Templates", "My
Templates", & "My Themes" - when saved, each type of item is stored by
default in its respective folder.

Pub templates & regular templates then become available categorically in the
Project Gallery but *not* the Elements Gallery. Themes, OTOH, are
categorically available from the PG *&* are added to a special segment at
the top of the Document Theme section of the Formatting Palette.

[1] Double-clicking this file just produces a new blank doc. However - since
it's a .dotx - I would expect that it contains all the bits & pieces that
constitute the various Document Elements which appear in the Elements
Gallery. Equipped with the right know-how I would suspect that one *might*
be able to unzip that file, modify its content, then pack it up again. It
follows that doing so would make the customizations available in the
Elements Gallery offerings... But this is strictly guesswork.

Cheers guys,
yeah it seems that for now unless there is some kinda hack that we will not be able to have our own customised galleries. hmm, maybe in office 2040?
thanks for your input :)

Yes, you can hack Document Elements.dotx to your heart's content.

Just make sure you keep a backup copy for when you ‹ erm ‹- "oops" :)

It's probably easiest to make these changes from Word 2007, where you have a
Developer tab so you can see what you are doing. Just take care you don't
put any element types in there that Word 2008 does not recognise :)

I am interested in Bob's testing. I thought I had been told that you can
add elements in other .dotx files to that location to bring them up in the
Elements Gallery. I am disappointed that his testing reveals otherwise. I
wonder if that's a bug, or whether I got the folder name wrong...

Cheers

Hi John -

I can assure you that my "testing" was by no means exhaustive or scientific,
but I do intend to play with it a bit more :)

Dear Friends,

tried a lot to add elements in the gallery and at last found out, try the below

GO TO: application>microsoft Office 2008>office>media>templates
and add ur templates here and this will be reflected in the elements gallery

FOR EXAMPLE: added a xls. in the elements gallery as bellow in templates folder i went to Ledger Sheets and created a new folder named Vimal's Temp and then added a required xls. sheet named costing.xls
and quit and reopen the excel i found the file under Gallery>Sheets>vimals temp> costing.xls
Friends it really worked good in excel. pls. let me know if it works fine for you..

good luck
cheers
