Making footnotes hanging indents

Footnotes in my documents are not formatted as hanging indents. The
second and subsequent lines are flush left, making them more difficult
to read. I would like them to be hanging indents like a numbered list.

I was able to accomplish this by editing the Footnote Text style, but
I had to guess at the indent. It seems to work with it set to 0.1". Is
this the best (or only) to accomplish this? Will it align properly if
I ever have 2-digit footnote callouts?

I would set the hanging indent in the style to 0.15" and start each footnote
with a tab character, which will automatically align the first word with the
indent.

Yep. And then I have to edit the style to set the tabs to match,
right?

It would be handy if footnotes worked as smoothly as numbered lists.

No, you don't have to do anything beyond setting the hanging indent in the
style. The indent itself will act as the first tabstop on the line. You just
do Insert > Footnote and then hit the Tab key before you start to type the
text of the footnote.

As for making footnotes like numbered lists, you know not what you ask...
