Making images non-printing

I have a template for printing CD stickers from Avery to use specifically on
one of their CD labels (two CDs per A4 page).

The problem is that the outline circles print out and my client does not
want this to happen. I can make both circles non-printing by putting them
text boxes in line with text, but I do not want to do this because I may
move the circle into the wrong place on the page and it will no longer be an
accurate guide (I think everyone who has made/used label templates know how
tricky they can be, particularly in Word).

So, can I make the anchored circles non-printing?

So far as I can see, the alternatives are:
1. remove the circle after the placing of the logo and fields for text are
final
2. use Illustrator or InDesign. I'd prefer the latter, but unfortunately I
don't think the client has anything more than Microsoft Office to play with.
(If I did a pdf with fields the logo and non-printing circle guides then I'd
get a blank sheet with fields and logo, I think)

Caveat: I never mess with the drawing tools, so just about anyone knows
more than me on this question.

Did you create these circles or are they pre-existing in the Avery template?

Assuming the circle is some sort of autoshape or some such, you should
be able to set it to No Line when you double-click to bring up the
Format dialog.

Ah--there is no such thing as "text boxes in line with text". By
definition, text boxes can only be in the drawing layer, not in line
with text (and an autoshape circle seems to act the same way).

Hi Dalya

I left out a word - should read "putting them *into* text boxes in line with
text" - not the text box itself!

The circles are pre-existing in the Avery template and someone in Avery has
gone to the trouble of placing them just so they match the CD labels.

Can I set each circle (both in the header/footer) to No Line via a script?
If so, how do I get the script to select them?

Unfortunately the suppress drawing objects from printing in Preferences
won't work because it suppresses everything: logo, all text boxes... I am
left with a blank page to print.

Thx

Sol

PS I avoid using drawing tools in Word too - it is a word processing
package. I use Adobe packages to do real drawing.

Oh, well, I don't use drawing tools in any program. Do not underestimate
my ignorance here. :)

I would say that it all depends on what these circles in the Avery
template are. You can access them via the header/footer? What does Word
think they are? Are the boxes around it solid black or white outlined
when selected? What happens when you select and double-click?

Experiment on copy, needless to say.

Slight confusion. Have you already been able to do this manually and
are you completely sure that it serves your purposes?

I'm not going to know the answer, because I know very little about
scripting, but I'm not sure you've confirmed this is even the route to take.

Set the paragraph containing the anchor to be "Hidden Text".

The circles will appear if you have Hidden Text showing, but they won't
print. Be careful of spacing issues: if you hide a paragraph its spacing is
also hidden.

Cheers
