Making MS Word/mac the default word processing program

I

IBCNU

I have a mac with MS Office/mac. I also have Parallels/Windows XP
installed with a few programs on that side.

When I try to open a saved word .doc file written and saved from Word,
the computer will open XP, and a lame program called Wordpad, which
opens the file. I have to then close it, right click "Open with MS
Word"

How can I change it so Word is the default word processing program?

Thanks

on the Mac side--select any Word doc in the finder. Hit cmd-I to Get
Info. In the Info box, you'll see a triangle for Open With. Set that
to Word, and click the Change All button.

If you want Word docs on the windows side to open in MacWord, ask the
parallels people. (I think I've heard this is possible, not sure)

If you want Word docs on the windows side to open in WinWord,
re-register Word in windows. Unfortunately, this is a mac group, so I
don't know how you do that. Someone else will, though.

It dawns on me that you'd better clarify what you are hoping to accomplish.

It's called SmartSelect in Parallels. Word documents in the Mac OS can
be opened automatically by Word for Windows, QuickTime files in Widnows
can be viewed automatically with QuickTime for Mac, etc.

Have a look at this video tutorial on SmartSelect from the Parallels
website <http://www.parallels.com/files/upload/video8_960x600.mov>.

Hope this helps!

To say your Mac, that in Windows you want to open that file in Word
rather than in Worpad, while running Windows right-click on that file,
select properties>opens with and select WORD

Thank you, Dalya.

That did it! As usual the mac solution is simple, once you figure it
out
