Making oneNote lighter/snappy/snappier

Hello all
I am new to onenote and usenet, so be nice ;). Loving onenote!

My question is how can I make onenote snappier ? Not saying that its a
resource hog or something, but things take just a second or 2 or more
longer .

To be specific -

Opening the side-note takes 3-4 seconds first time , 2 seconds every other
time
OPening options (tools > options ) takes a good 10 seconds! everytime.
(help)
tab changing is just ain't instant.
and a few other things..taht I don't remember right now.

I have fast 3 month old dual-core PC running xp sp3 . 1 gb ram .
So plesae suggest any thigns I can do to make things more snappy.

Thanks

and how do things work on usenet/ I have several other questions, should I
make a new post for every question or do I ask all my questions in one
post?

Hi Anshul! Welcome to newsgroups. I know I rely on these fine folks to
answer all of my questions, so I know you'll get answers here as well.

Generaly speaking, I found some of the things that helped my one-note speed
were:
- disabling the pen pressure sensitivity (if you're using ON on a tablet pc,
that is...)
- disabling the Instant Search service

You can do this through Tools --> Options

Hope this helps, to start!

What type of video card do you have? All the problems you point out could
potentially be caused by a slow video card. One of my test machines has
integrated video, and although the processor is fast, it takes seconds to
draw what other machines with dedicated video cards (and slower processors)
can draw in milliseconds.

And at the risk of "advertising" an upgrade to Vista, you can get a startup
speed increase by using Readyboost:
http://blogs.msdn.com/johnguin/archive/2007/07/02/a-cheap-speed-increase-for-onenote.aspx

And you may want to follow the link back from my blog entry to
GottaBeMobile.com to see if other users there have posted any speed tweaks
for OneNote.

Last tip: check under the Control Panel System Icon | Advanced tab. There
are a bunch of UI enhancements you can disable there to speed up your UI
overall. FWIW, I have about 80% of them disabled on my primary machines.

Thanks for replying. I figured that one of the reason for onenote
sluggishness is my old hard-drive.

Although my onenote is not exactly slow, its just not instant! something
like Opera (the browser). And I do not think the readyboost should make a
difference if I already running with 1gb..
