Making Outlook Work

B

Bruce

I have an old version of Outlook ( I think 97) that I
cannot open up on my new computer and I would like to use it.

I get the following message when I go to open the Outlook
icon on my desktop: The ordinal 36 could not be located in
the dynamic link Library MAPI32.dll.

I do not know what this is or where to get this info. Can
anyone email me what I need.

My email address is (e-mail address removed).

Thank you.

If you still have your installation media, try to reinstall. However, note
that OL97 is very old and was buggy at release - you may be better off just
getting OL2003.

Sorry, no email replies. Note - posting your valid e-mail address in a
newsgroup post, or in your news account settings, is a surefire way to get
spam and SWEN and other viruses sent to you....see
http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm for help in the future, but note
that now that your address is out there, there's not much you can do other
than changing your address.

More than that, if the OP has a high-speed Internet connection (DSL or
cable), Outlook 97 is unsuitable, since most high-speed services require
authenticating to the outgoing server and Outlook 97 cannot do that. At
least Outlook 98 is needed for that and that is no longer available for
download. The OP could find a more modern OL on eBay if s/he doesn't wish
to pay full retail price.

Good catch - is that true even with the internet mail addin one can still
download from MS? I haven't used OL97 in years, thank goodness....

Yes, it's true even with that add-in, because I have it. The option for
outgoing authentication just does not exist. I'd love to get Outlook 98 for
that machine, but I'm loathe to buy it on eBay or other auction sites. It
just doesn't seem worth the hassle.
