Making reference to a captioned item in a large document

M

Michael Schneider

I am trying to reference captioned images and tables in the paragraphs
of my document. The problem is that the document is very large and it
is borken into many sub documents. When I create the caption to the
document I base it off of a heading 1 field and a sequense number
(i.e. Figure 4-1, Figure 4-2 etc.) However, in the current
subdocument there is no heading 1 for the figure to reference. An the
text says "Error! No text of specified style in docuemnt". I use
INCLUDETEXT fields to link it back to the master document (with the
heading 1 style). The figure numbers update and show the correct
number, the reference in the text does not. How can I get the
paragraph text to update to show the correct reference? BTW.
ctrl+click works and finds the bookmarked figure.

Michael,
I'm having the same problem. Posted a similar question last week:
"Figure captions with chapter numbers using Includetext"

A frustrating problem indeed!

The same answer applies to both of you, and I posted it a minute ago in
answer to Curran's question last week.
