Making separate lists

I was told I could do this, but I'm not getting it. I
want to take my contacts and have the ability to break
them into different lists. Personal, company contacts,
golf buddies, etc. However I do NOT want to lose the
integrity of the whole database of names. Can you help me?

For each type of contact, add a category that distinguishes that type.
