Making Square Cells

Is there a way to easily make table cells square? I'm a teacher and use graphs with different numbers and sizes of cells, but I'd like them to be square. Each time I create a new one, I have to wrestle with the column and row settings until it looks about right. I downloaded the graph paper template and got all tangled up in its preset formatting. I have Office XP Pro

Thanks

Hi, Monica,

Try this:

First, on the Table > AutoFit menu, set 'Fixed column width'. That
will stop Word trying to rearrange things.

Display the Drawing toolbar. Click the Draw button at the left end and
select Grid. Set the grid's horizontal and vertical measurements to
the size you want your square cells to be, and check the boxes for
'Snap objects to grid' and 'Display gridlines on screen'. Click OK.
This gives you a set of gray lines in the pattern you want for your
graph paper, but they won't print.

Now use the mouse to drag each table border to the nearest gridline.
As it gets close, it will snap into place. When they're all set
properly, you can go back to the Grid dialog and uncheck the 'Display
gridlines on screen' box if you want.

Monica,

When I want square table cells, I highlight the whole
table and adjust the table properties so the row height,
column width and cell widths are all the same number of
inches.

I also make sure I have adjusted the text alignment in
table properties so it appears where I want it in the
cells.

Hope that helps! LisaG
