We're using the Sum function and the correct formula appears in the cell, but not the number resulting from the formula. We can't figure out why.

could be the cell is formatted as text. If that's the case, change the cell
format to General and edit the cell. Just press Enter to re-input your
formula. Or you could have a space in front of the equals sign; just delete
the space and press Enter.

the cell is probably formated as 'Text'. goto 'Format - Cells' and
change the format to 'General'. Reenter the formula

1. If you see the formula as typed but not the result, the cell is formatted
as Text. Change the format to General and re-enter the formula or just hit F2
then <ENTER> key.

2. You are in "Formula View". CRTL + `(backquote above TAB key) to toggle on
or off formula view.

I checked the cell format and it is General, not Text. I also tried formatting it as Number. Neither changed the outcome; the formula still appears in the cell. I also hit F2 and then enter and again no change. There does not appear to be a space before the = in the formula bar. When I click on fx, the correct sum appears in the function box, but when I click on "OK", the formula still appears in the cell. This is just a simple column of numbers (wedding invitees), and my Excel on my office machine produces the number, so this is quite frustrating!

I didn't scoll down far enough on Gord's message. I did the Ctrl "Squiggle" and that fixed it. Thanks much!!!
