Manage actual for a group of resources

I have to manage actual time for a group of resources. One entry each week
for the group. I do not want to use a Project Server Authentification. WE
use Project 2003 and managed periods method. The above solution didn't work,
because it's impossible to enter actual hours in a Project plan using managed
periods. When I do that, the synchronisation process start and delete
automatically all the data already entered.

Do you have other solution, please,

1. Ask your Project Server to create a Generic resource in the Enterprise
Resource Pool representing this group of people
2. In the Microsoft Project plan, assign the Generic resource to the tasks
on which the group of people will work
3. Enter actuals for the group in the Microsoft Project plan each week

This didn't work.

Thanks

Your organization's use of the Managed Time Periods feature directly
conflicts with how you are asked to enter time for a group of resources.
Because of this, I think your organization needs to re-examine why you are
using Managed Time Periods in the first place, and why you are being asked
to enter actuals for the group rather than each person in the group entering
actuals himself/herself.

Enough lecture from me. Here's a possible solution:

1. Ask your Project Server administrator to create a resource in the
Enterprise Resource Pool that represents this group of people. He/she
should set the Max. Units value as the number of people in this group
multiplied by 100%. For example, if there are 12 people in the group,
he/she should set the Max. Units value to 1200%. He/she should NOT make
this resource a Generic resource. The resource will be a regular resource
that functions like a Generic resource.

2. Assign this new resource tasks in your projects, setting the Units value
on each task to the number of people working on the task multipled by 100%.
For example, if 6 of the group are working on the task, set the Units value
for that group's assignment on the task to 600%.

3. Publish your project and your task assigments.

To enter actuals for this group, you will need to log into PWA using this
group's PWA login account. You will need to navigate to a URL similar to
this one to be able to log in as the group:

http://servername/projectserver/lgnps.asp

In the User Name field, enter the name of the group. The Password for this
group is blank by default. Log into PWA and change the password. Then
navigate to the View My Tasks page and enter the actuals for the group. You
can update the actuals as well. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
