managing distribution lists

I work for a college department and I keep a large email distribution list of students and alumni. When I send out an email to the distribution list, I get a lot of returned emails.
Is there any way or any software that
helps you clean up distribution lists ? Or is the only way to do it is to open up each returned email and then search for the email address in the distribution list and delete it?

This isn't something Entourage does. Sorry I have no links to help with
this.

You would need software other than Entourage to not only process sending
the list but then process all bounces. Software for this would need to
mark each message with a unique code that can be searched for and found
in the bounced messages to remove them from the list.

An AppleScript might also be able to do this but it would have to be
very well crafted to know the difference between bounces from various
E-mail servers, junk mail, legitimate mail, etc.

Hope this helps!
