Managing IT Department

Our company is trying to manage the IT department utilizing MS Project 2003. I think the best way to describe what we want to do is through an example

Example: Bob goes to PWA. He sees that he has 3 new tasks. The task view shows that Bob is expected to spend 50% of his time on Task A, 30% of his time on Task B and 20% of his time on Task C. Bob is able to report on those tasks by entering in % of time worked on each task.

How can expected % of time per task be shown to Bob? We believe that this method communicates to Bob that Task A is more important than Task B which is more important than Task C

Also, we are thinking that each IT director will maintain 1 project for his/her group and each task defined are actual projects that are going on inside that group. Not sure if this is the best way to set this up. IT Directors do share resources amongst themselves

We also have the issue of “General Supportâ€

Any ideas are appreciated?

Be careful - the percentages do not indicate imprtance - it is the task
priority field that should do that. Assigning Bob to task A for 50%, task B
for 30% and task C for 20% means you expect him to spend 4 hours on A, about
2 1/4 hours on B and 1 3/4 hour on C

Exactly! I do not see a way to publish either those percentages or priority field to the PWA
