Managing users in Project Server and Sharepoint

I have been adding users to Project Server, but then some of them cannot see
the sharepoint sites associated with projects. Does it have to do with
windows authentication vs. project server authentication? Do I have to add
users to the sharepoint sites separately from project server? (That would be
a pain!)

Bill --

Only resources with Windows User Account authentication can access the
SharePoint sites. Hope this helps.

OK, I get it. Thanks.

Is there a way to add a Windows-authenticated user in Project Server with
appropriate permissions and have them automatically added to the user lists
of the sharepoint sites associated with the previously-created projects that
they can now see?

Bill:

When you add users post-site-creation, you may need to run the synchronize
users routine on each of the existing sites.

I see an option to synchronize the Active Directory in Project Server (Admin
/ Manage Users and Groups / Groups / Active Directory: Set the options for AD
synchronization) but I don't see it on the Sharepoint sites. Where is that
option oin the Sharepoint sites.

Bill,

This is a multi-step process - as you're probably figuring out by now. If you're an admin via PWA try this and see what happens.

1) Create your users in project web access admin, making sure they use windows authentication.
2) Once the user is created assign the user a role and appropriate permissions based on the role, i.e. project manager, team member, executive, etc...
3) Open the project you want the user to be added to in MSProj Professional.
4) Add the user as a resource to the project plan and give them an assignment.
5) Go back to PWA administration and select Manage Windows Sharepoint Services
6) On the left navigation pane select Manage Sharepoint sites
7) Find your project in the list and highight that row
8) Click the Synchronize button at the top of that page

This has worked for me in the past - hope you find the same. Good luck.

I understand the concept of post-site creation's pain to hit synchronize
sharepoint site every now and then.

Is there a quick way to synchronize a set of project sites at once, instead
of sync-ing one after another? It's a pain because our organization has
nearly a hundred project files, hence a hundred sharepoint sites. Repeat
that once every couple of weeks when there are new hires, and you know what I
mean.

Stored procedure? Script? Anything will help. Thanks.
