Is it possible to use Publisher 2003 to manage my website after I launch it ?
Would you recommend to do this or outsource it to a company ?
Thanks !

Depends on what you mean by; manage.

I doubt you'll find any company willing to _manage_ a website produced by
Publisher.

The creator of the website would have the original pub file. S/he would be
able to make changes on the original pub file, and then republish it to the
server which would replace the files on the server.

Now what if my original website needed to be completely redone. I created a
new webpage and wanted to publish that instead. Though process of
elimination I deleted all the files in the FTP area and went though the
publish to the web process again. Except for the automatic date text box not
working...everything looked fine. A few months later I needed to make a few
word changes, and when I did a quick internet search engine find, I could
open web pages of my current and old website. So I went in and deleted all
the FTP files again, published to the web and now a "directory list" is
appearing and my ISP says I need a index.htm, which I don't have. Now the
FTP will not let me have access, even though my ISP can get in just fine.

That was a rather incomplete answer. You found your old pages through a
search engine probably because you found archive pages...nothing to worry
about. It also sounds like you had some problems figuring out what files to
delete off your web host. I would suggest that you temporarily publish your
HTML output to your hard drive, where you can find it, and then go and study
the files and folders that are produced. This will help you decide what to
delete off your web site. Hope this helps explain things and along with the
reference material get you up and running.

Researched yourinstructions and link, and found out that the index.htm file
was not in the public_html folder. Did that in the ftp area and everything
seemed to look perfect. The next day the date was not current, it was the
day I published to the web. Now the date seemed to have worked in the past.
Any suggestions as to why it will not change? www.mrilsl.com

I don't know for sure, but I imagine that auto date is for a document on
your computer, that updates when you open the Publisher file. I would just
suggest that you get rid of it. After all, every computer has the time...I
don't need to know the time when I look at your website.

I just ran across a code snippet you could try for your date if you still
want it. Using the insert HTML code fragment tool, insert the following
code:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">var Today=new Date ();document.write("<b>" +
"Today is " + Today + "<br>");</script>

You can probably modify this script to your purpose...
