manipulate PowerPoint backgrounds

I would like to manipulate the background in one of the standard PowerPoint
templates. I would like to save the image as a JPEG or some other format so
that I can insert it into a Word or Publisher document, so they match my
PowerPoint presentation. Is there any way to separate out the background from
the template so it can be manipulated this way? Thanks.

Add a blank slide to the presentation, save it as JPG.

You are far better off just making your own in whatever photo-editing or
drawing program you intended on editing the pre-made PPT background.
The PPT ones seem to be lo-res bitmapped images that will be hard to
alter once isolated.
