manipulating inserted/pasted JPEGs in WORD 2003 doc

I cannot manipulate pasted or inserted JPEGs so that they
occupy the areas I desire in a WORD2003 document. The
object delimiters when highlighted are always black
squares, not the hollow or empty squares that I used to
get in earlier versions of WORD. Any suggestions?

Click on the picture to display the Picture toolbar. Click on the Text
Wrapping button (dog icon) and choose any other wrapping style besides In
Line With Text from the menu.
