Mank Sans displays strangely

When using PPT for Mac I'm seeing a strange little line at the end of copy blocks. The designer I'm working with believes it's Unicode character 0131, the "dotless i."

- It happens with a PPT from a client who's having the same problem.
- It isn't reproduce-able on the designer's Mac
- It exports with a PDF when saved that way, but doesn't travel with the PPT doc on all machines (Windows machines don't exhibit the problem, some Macs do and some don't)
- I deleted the fonts from Font Book and reinstalled them from the designer's file that works on his machine. Same result.
- I deleted them from Font Book and installed them in my System -> Library -> Fonts folder. Same result.

It looks like the line appears at the bottom of copy blocks. I'd be happy to upload or email documents that exhibit the problem if that's helpful for anyone here.

- I'm using Microsoft office for Mac 2008, PPT version 12.1.7 which appears to be the latest version (I ran the MS auto updater to make sure).
- OS X 10.5.8
- Font Book 2.1

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Actually, Aaron, SP2 (12.2.0) was released back in June & another interim
update (12.2.1) has been available since the 6th of August. I don't know why
AutoUpdate might have missed them, but before any more troubleshooting it
might be a good idea to tend to that first. If AutoUpdate still will not
retrieve them for you they can be downloaded from the Mactopia site:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx?link_name=downloads

You might also check your AutoUpdate app to make sure that *it* is current.

For better results log in while holding Shift before applying SP2, restart
after updating & run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions before running
any of the Office apps. If the issue continues reply with any additional
details, including the fonts involved.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

I updated Office with the SP2, then again with 12.2.1. I ran the disk utility Repair Permissions. The problem still occurs.

The only font that seems affected is MankSans. Regular, Italic, Medium, and Medium italic are all effected.

Any other thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again,

Well, the first two things I do if there are font-related issues:

1- Crank up Font Book & run the Validate Fonts & Resolve Duplicates
routines, and

2- Shut down the Mac for a few moments then do a cold start up

See if that works for you.
