Manuscript Templete

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I wondering if a manuscript templete for writing novels is available. At the moment I'm having trouble skipping over several pages where I do not want a page number or header/footer information provided.

For example, there are eight pages in the beginning of my novel that are reserved for graphics, copyright information, and acknowledgements that do not require a page number or header/footer information. However, when I begin my story (in my case on page 8) I would like the page number to be shown as page 1, and on the following page header/footer information for all pages that follow in addition to page numbers.

Is this possible?

Yeah, it's easily possible, you just have to understand the subject of
Section Breaks.

Look in the Word help for the topic "About sections and section breaks".

Then read "Start page numbering on a different page"

ALL "page" properties are stored in a section break.

A document ALWAYS has at least one section break, called the Default Section
Break. The default section break occurs below the last paragraph mark in
the document (i.e. It is off the screen, so you will never see it, but it is
always there).

To make any change to page numbers, you need to add a section break BEFORE
the text where you want the different page numbering (it can be anywhere on
the previous page, but it must be on the previous page).

Then go into the footer or header, as appropriate, and do your thing there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks John for the feedback. Unfortunately, none of your suggestions worked for me. In my version of Student Office 2008 I have 4 section breaks. None of which helped in solving my case. No matter what I do, I always get page numbers on pages where I do not need them. And in every case the text portion starts with a continuation of the page numbering from the start. In my case, the page where I want to start numbering begins with page 7.

Right now I have the body text portion of my novel keeping track of my pages correctly. At some future time I will have to figure out how to add the 7 additional pages without screwing up my current page listing.

Hi Prontopac:

I didn't tell you how to do it, I told you where to look to learn how to do
it :)

Page numbering is stored in and controlled by section breaks. Specifically,
each page number is stored in and controlled by the section break that
appears AFTER where it appears in the document.

Each section break has up to three headers and up to three footers, set by
your Page Layout.

If you are writing a book (and I do them for a living) you have to really
understand section breaks.

Sorry: There are no shortcuts to this :)

Cheers
