MAPI failure with Word 97

I have some users who are getting an error when they do the following:
1. Open a word97 document
2. Choose File -> Sent to -> Mail Recipient
The error says :
Windows Messaging "The form required to view this message cannot be
displayed. Contact your administrator"
You click OK then the next message appears:
Microsoft Word "Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure:
"Unspecified Error"
These users are running Word97, Groupwise 6.5.1 and Windows XP SP2 on a dell
D600 laptop.
Any ideas about how to fix this?
