MAPI Spooler??

I've got an outgoing message that I can't delete because the "MAPI Spooler" has already begun transmitting the message. I get an error message everytime I open or close outlook. What is this "MAPI Spooler" and how can I delete this sent message and get the Spooler to just quietly do it's job without bothering me?
