MAPISRVR.EXE - Where does it come from?

Hi all.

We use some software which interacts with MAPI.

On a previous delevoped XP Desktop, the file C:\WINDOWS
\SYSTEM32\MAPISRVR.EXE exists, and our program can send emails using
MAPI with no problems.

On a new developed desktop, the file is not present, and the program
does not work.

Although I can simply copy the file from our old XP desktop, I would
like to know why it is missing, as I believe there may be a component
we have not installed? I believe it is installed as part of Office
2003, but unsure what exactly.

Desktops are running XP Pro with either SP2 or 3 (doesn't matter for
existence of file), and running Office 2003 (can be fully patched). We
are running Outlook through an Exchange server.

Can anyone shed any light at all as to where this file is isntalled
from?
Thanks!

Not here, winxp & office 2007, or Vista & Office2003

I believe it origonates from Extended Mapi 1.0 for winNT & installed via MS
Exchange 5.5.0 (But that only came from a google search)

Thanks for the reply..

Yeah our newer images have XP SP2/SP3 and Office 2003/2007 but doesn't
have the file installed anywhere, so unsure how it was on a previous
image running XP SP2 and Office 2003.

It does seem related to older Office products, which is confusing
since they were not in our image at all...

Will keep looking.
Thanks.
