Mapping British pounds symbol to keyboard

I frequently insert the British pounds symbol £ into Word and other Office
docs as well as the U.S. $ symbol, but want to find an alternative to messing
around with the insert "Symbols" commands. Takes too much time and it's
distracting to my thought flow. Is there a way to map the £ symbol directly
to the keyboard? I'm using Office 2003 and the 2007 beta.

i think so.
I've seen freeware, maybe shareware, for re-mapping keyboard keys
check out fileforum or download.com, don't remember where I seen it/them...
