Mapping Email "Display As" Fields in Outlook 2002

Heather

I am running XP & Office 2002. I maintain my contact information in an
Access database (recently converted from 2000 to 2002 format). I export the
contact information periodically from the database to my Outlook address
book to update the data.

Thanks to Russ I now have my email address field mapped correctly, but now
when I click on a name in the address book & add that person as a recipient,
only the email address appears in the "To" field. When I go to map the email
field(s) I see that there is a field for "display as"--my problem is that my
database has a field for each of the following: first, middle, last, suffix.
The "display as" field will not let me drag more than one field to it, nor
will it let me drag the name field from the top of the Outlook list to which
I've mapped all my individual fields.

HELP--my new boss is already monumentally unhappy about the duplicate
contacts displaying for email & phone information (I thought I saw someone
post that Outlook 2003 corrects that problem--is that true?). I will end up
manually typing in the the correct "display as" information (i.e. first
name, last name {&email address if necessary}) if you folks don't have a
solution. Then the problem is that I can't overwrite the Outlook information
with my updated Access data...

Thanks!

i don't know too much about the integration between outlook and
access, but you can create a query in access that has a column that
contains the full name, in the way you like it to show up in the
display as field, possibly with the email appended to it. (it also has
all the other columns from the database you want to import to
outlook.)

from the outside, queries appear almost in the same way as tables do,
so you then can import your contacts from that query rather than from
the table, and can map the new column you created to the display as
field.

SUCCESS!! (after consulting with my local Access Expression Guru). Thanks
for the idea!!!
