MapPoint-mapping multiple catagories from a single Access Dbase

I have been linking an Access data base to Maps and it works in general. I am
having difficulty with a specific link set up. My understanding is that
MapPoint will link with Tables and Queries within Access. I have a data base
of 400 records. I would like to map 5 different catagories of records out of
this single data base. I have linked a filtered Query to the map and in the
link wizard routine it shows only those records that are filtered in the
Query but then it maps all the records of the database

I am using a 60 trial version to demonstrate functionality prior to
committing /deployment to MapPoint and as such MS does not provide any
support, paid or otherwise, according to multiple MS contacts.

So the question is: what is the best way to export out of single Access
databse to show multiple categories in MapPooint. The location markers in
MapPoint will be different colors based on the category of the imported
records.

I could not duplicate your problem. Using Access 2002 and MapPoint 2006, I
first built a query in Access which reduced about 15,000 records to about
30, then used the Data Wizard in MapPoint, I linked to the query. The
resulting map showed 28 out of the 30 addresses because it could not find 2
of them. I discovered that the names were misspelled on the 2 but didn't
bother rerunning the wizard.

If you try again and still have trouble, you may want to try to export the
data to an Excel spreadsheet, using the Office Links menu option in Tools to
"Analyze with Excel". Then link the Excel spreadsheet to MapPoint using the
Data Wizard.

Remember you must include, and identify your Primary Key for this to work.
If MapPoint can't identify the records as unique it doesn't work properly.

I use a Where clause to limit my records, not a filter. The SQL view in the
query wizard should look something like:

Select MyTable.*
From MyTable
Where Category = "Whatever";

In the QBE grid, that equivalent to typing the word:

"Whatever"

with quotes in the criteria box.

Do you know if mappoint will allow me to import a list of locations and draw
me a route in the order in which they are stored/imported in the table; point
A , Point B, and so on...

I don't have mappoint, and can't get a demo, and don't want to comit to a
purchase until i can be sure it will do this accurately. (fed up spending
money on software that doesn't deliver what it promises) I have tried it in
Autoroute 2006, and it takes the data in, but for some inexplicable reason,
runs the route either backwards or in no particular order. result is less
than useless..., so i thought maybe MapPoint would do the job as it seems
aimed a the more 'professional' market.
