margin are set outside printable area

I see the doc in page layout fine at 1" bottom margin.
But in print preview, the bottom margin is 2.67". In
page setup when I click ok, a msg box reads "one or more
margins are set outside of printable area. Choose the Fix
button to increase the appropriate margins." After I
choose fix, it sets margin at 2.67" and will not let me
set any lower.

How do I set the margin at 1" ?

Thanks. I was sure that that "2.67" was significant. I decided not to chance their beta drivers, since I just loaded a driver to allow doublse sided printing, but I did stumble across a workaround: I have another, non-HP printer installed. To test Suzanne's premise, I opened the print and chose another printer, then closed the menu without printing. The bottom margin then displayed correctly in Print Preview. Then open the print menu again, choose the HP printer, and closed the print menu. Print Preview was still correct, and the HP printed the file correctly. If I open the Page Setup menu again, however, even if I cancel without changes, the bottom margin reverts to 2.67" and I have to do it all over again. Sounds like something from Greek mythology, I know.

You are not the first to report that this sort of byzantine workaround
works.
