Margins again, apparently

I have looked through old postings but can't seem to find my issue.
Using OS X 10.3.7, and Word X for Mac SR1. I use an Epson Photo Stylus
870. In Word ONLY, not Adobe, or Excel, or any other application, the
application believes that my bottom margin is 3" and will not print
below 3" from the bottom of the page.

I have looked at troubleshooting printer tips at Mactopia, I have
deleted and reinstalled my printer driver twice. I have deleted and
reinstalled Office. I have set page margins in Format Document and
saved it as default.

The first time I look at a document (in print preview), it appears to
be OK, but once I attempt to print it, I get the message that the
document exceeds the margins of the page - do I want to fix it? It
doesn't seem to matter if I fix it or not, the next time I look at the
document in print preview, the bottom margin has become 3". In
addiiton, if I try to save it as .pdf, it saves the document with a 3"
bottom margin.

Any help, please? Thanks!

I don¹t have the software myself, so I cannot be more specific.

I seem to remember that some of the Epson Stylus print drivers give
extremely elaborate printing options. Possibly you have inadvertently
enabled some kind of custom paper size.

I know that one of the custom paper sizes Epson offers is 5.5 in width. That
sounds suspiciously like 8.5 3, which is the margin result you¹re getting.
If you had landscape selected ...

I think there is more than one place a custom size can be specified. Be
sure to check page setup after you select the Epson as the printer. Then,
after you get your Print dialog, be sure to check all of the available
options in addition to Copies and Pages.

Hope maybe I mentioned something you have not already tried three times.

Best,

Word X service release 1 is pretty outdated. Updaters are up to 10.1.6 now,
and printing definitely took a while to sort out.

Note that "deleting" Office only fixes problems if you run the Office
Remover from the Value Pack on the CD.

Also make sure that you actually have your exact printer selected in all of
Word's dialogs, and that you aren't formatting for "any printer."

Hi Rick:

I would quit Word and rename your Normal template: that may well fix it for
you.

Word stores printer definitions in the document and in the Normal template.

In this case, the margin "should" have come right when you corrected it,
PROVIDED that you edited the Normal Template directly with NO other
documents open, then saved it.

However, Word X was capable of a bug where it would slightly corrupt its
documents so that the default section break became "read-only". If you
rename the Normal template, Word will create a new clean version when you
next restart. You can then use Organiser to copy back from the old Normal
any macros, styles etc that you might want to keep. Don't copy any text
from it or you may copy the problem back ion again.

Couple of traps for young players: There can be several copies of Normal
template on a computer, make sure you find them all and delete all except
the one in use.

Also: Check your settings for paper size. It may not be the "margin" that
is wrong, it may be the paper size.

Note that Word will silently expand margins if it needs to to accommodate
the header or footer. Check your headers and footers to make sure you do
not have some invisible artefact stuck in there that is expanding the margin
(use Select All in the footer and look to see how big the highlighted area
is...).

Hope this helps
