Margins in excel mac vs. pc

I am trying to open an excel spreadsheet that was created on a pc using office 2003 on my mac using office 2004. When I open the document on my mac the content on the pages is outside the print area by about 20%. The margins are set to exactly the same size, but every document I open on the mac is outside the print area.

I noticed that on my mac by default excel only shows page one going over to column F, but on my pc page one goes all the way over to column I. The height is different too. On my mac excel shows 49 rows on the first page and on the pc excel shows 44 rows.

Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi blaketquinn,

This is most likely due to differences in printer drivers between the two systems.

A possible workaround is to set the 'fit to' page layout to the required arrangement via File|Page Setup (PC steps - I don't know
the Mac equivalents).

My first guess would be that even though the Margins are the same - that
travels with the file - the printers on the Mac & the PC are not only
different but are set to use different default paper sizes. Scaling may also
be an issue. Have you actually printed or used Print Preview after opening
the files? Your printer driver doesn't take over until you do.

Check those settings in Page Setup & make sure you have Office fully updated
to 11.5.3 along with the latest driver for your Mac's printer.

In addition to Bob's and macropod's suggestions, this may be a result of
font incompatibilities, too - if you don't have the specified font on
your Mac, XL will attempt to make the "best" substitution. This, in
combination with different print drivers, is a frequent complaint
between Macs & PCs, Macs and Macs, and PCs and PCs.
