Margins of 1" but what I see on screen shows no margins

This is probably a basic question but at the moment it's an annoying
encumberance. Lately my version of Word is displaying a New Document with no
no margins on the screen. If I press Print Preview it looks fine but when I
go back to my screen the test is at the top of the document with no space, no
margin. I'm working in Print Layout. This only started recently. Prior to
this when I opened a New Document the document would appear with a 1" margin
on the top of the page as it always has.

Your guidance and suggestions about how to rectify this situation would be
appreciated.

Sounds like you might have the "Hide White Space" option turned on. Place
your cursor right at the top of the page, hold it still for a moment, and see
if "Show White Space" appears. If it does, click on it and the top and
bottom margins should appear.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, that solved the problem. Your prompt response is appreciated.
Such a simple little thing, but incredibly annoying and frustrating.

I nearly freaked the first time I had that happen to me. I remember thinking
what the heck would anyone want that feature for. And then one day earlier
this year I was creating a policy manual and the formatting was driving me
nuts. Too many levels, sub-entries, and bulleted points. I couldn't figure
out if I'd messed up the indentation on the continuing pages. By getting rid
of the white space, I could see my document's formatting much easier.

Live and learn.
