I have mistakenly changed the default margins for all future documents in word. Can someone please tell me what the default margins on a new document are when you start a new file in word?

Version of Word? Paper size?

Sorry: Unless you tell us what you're using, we can't answer. We support
about 20 versions of Word here.

Try 3.17 cm left and right, and 2.54 cm top and bottom.

Cheers

I am using Microsoft for Mac Office 2004. I need the top and bottom margins.

Thank You,

Are you using US letter, or A4 as you default paper size in Office2004.

I when installing Office2004 for the first time I accidentally set A4 is
my default paper size. I never could figure out how to reset it so I
ended up completely removing and reinstalling Office2004. I have not had
to reset thankfully again.

So what you might have to do is remove office Totally then when it ask
the default size you wish to use choose desired size.

US Letter is 8.5 by 11. A4 is based on Decimal numbers is both smaller
in Height and width.

Here is a method for setting default margins I use:

Say I want a word document to open using .25" margins top and bottom
side to side. open a blank would document. then go to Format Menu >
Document choose desired margins and choose okay or save to make the
changes.

Next type a letter (any letter a b c whatever) then delete it. Now save
as "dummy document" now quit word. It should ask you "do you wish to
save to normal (template)" choose yes.

Locate the dummy document you save throw in trash and empty.

Now as long as the normal template doesn't become corrupted it will open
with the margins you set. each time you open for new.

Now if you go and make changes to margins for a specific document, but
don't wish to save the changes to normal the when asked choose no.
Otherwise you will have to repeat the above.

I have mistakenly changed the default margins for all future documents
in word. Can someone please tell me what the default margins on a new
document are when you start a new file in word?

I *think* the top/bottom defaults are 1². Not positive. You can find out
for sure by quitting Word, renaming your Normal template
(Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal) and allowing Word to create a
new Normal template when you relaunch. That virgin Normal will have all the
defaults. You can keep it (and trash your old Normal) or trash it (and
restore your old Normal by renaming it back).

Depends on your paper size and what you have in you header and footer.

As I said, start with 2.54 cm.

I am just trying to see what the default margins are when u first sign on to word, open a blank document, then look at the margins that are in there as a default.

Going around Robin Hood's barn a bit, aren't we?:)

How about Format> Document, change your specs, click Default?

What I was referring to is when Word2004 opens for the very first time
it defaults to what ever is set up in setup assistant and for 2004 you
can only access that when you first install it.

BTW: no mention is made of such setup on Office2008 it assumes what ever
you have set up for default for the system OS.

Tell me what PAPER SIZE you are using!!!!

Otherwise, I cannot answer. It varies all over the world, and depends on
your paper size!
