Mass convert old Word docs to new format

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have 100-200 old documents in MS Word 1.x-5.x format (they are papers from my academic day). I want to convert them to the new format, but am finding it a real pain to open each one and then save it again.

Is there a way to automate this? I am fairly proficient at AppleScript and Automator, if I have to go that route.

Hi Bryan:

We already answered this two days ago.

"Use Automator" is the easiest answer. There's a Microsoft Word action
available that does it all for you.

Cheers

I have the student edition so I cannot use the automator actions. Is there any help on how to do this with Applescript?

You CAN use Automator actions, you just did not receive any from Microsoft
on your Office CD. But you have plenty from Apple on your computer now.

If you Google around the web, you will find plenty of companies willing to
sell you Automator actions for a very small fee. One of them is sure to
have a suitable one.

Paying the fee would be far quicker than learning AppleScript.

You could do this with just a few lines of AppleScript, but you would need
to know the AppleScript programming language to write them.

Again, Google around the web and you will find plenty of sites that will get
you started in AppleScript. If you hang around here, someone may even do
you a favour and run it up for you.

Just not me: I program in VBA and they are not at all similar :)

Sorry
