Hello,

I have read about the Entourage 2004 muss delete bug where Entourage deleted tons of mails.
I am wondering if some variation of this bug still exists in Entourage 2008 since I have been faced to the behavior that Entourage deleted ALL emails (except the emails from last week). This already happened twice.

Any ideas?

The only "mass delete" bug I've ever heard is a problem with an Exchange
Server locking your account for a virus scan while Entourage tries to
access it. IIRC, that was fixed with a hotfix or a patch on the server.

To the best of my knowledge Entourage has never had a mass delete bug.
Can you point to an online reference?

Also, how many computers access your Exchange account?

Four:
1x Outlook 2007 (Vista Ultimate) as main mailbox
1x Outlook 2007 (Vista Ultimate) as delegate mailbox
2x Entourage 2008 (Mac OS X 10.5) as delegate

The last "mass deletion" took place on November 16th. Happily I was able to restore the emails using "recycle deleted elements" in Outlook 2007.

2x Entourage 2008 (Mac OS X 10.5) as delegate mailbox

This is the same problem I'm referring to. I thought it was a hotfix
that corrected the problem but possibly this was fixed by patches to
both Entourage and Exchange.

Why do you not suspect any of the other client connections for the
deletions?

I have never heard of mass deletion issues in Outlook but I have found the previously psoted information/links about such a phenomen in Entourage - hence I assumed that Entourage is the "problem".

Any ideas how to find evidences that Entourage really is responsible for the mass deletion?

Thanks,

Although that problem did exist, it was rare that it every happened. I
personally never heard of it until the patches were released. So long as
you're patched to Entourage 11.4.0 or later then that bug doesn't exist
for you. And I've heard of nothing else about Entourage and mass deletions.

I suggest turning your attention to all those folks who have access to
your account and privileges to delete. Someone may not be doing it on
purpose but it makes more sense to me.

I use Entourage 12.0.1

I suggest turning your attention to all those folks who have access to
your account and privileges to delete. I have to clarify. Besides me (with
PC and notebook) only my wife on the Mac has access to my mailbox (through
Mac and MacBook). No other users have priviöeges.

Someone may not be doing it on purpose but it makes more sense to me.
I am pretty sure neither me nor my wife deleted the mails. Not only the
mails of *one* folder were lost but the mails of ALL folders. The folders
were just empty.

I still believe there is going on something mysterious with Entourage - I cannot proof it. If the mails would have been deleted manually, I would have found them in the "deleted" items folder in Entourage.

Best regards

Nothing wrong with having your suspicions about Entourage so long as
you're not letting it blind you to other possibilities.

Have you checked OWA's Recover Deleted Items folder? That's a location
hidden to Entourage. In either Outlook or OWA (Options --> scroll to
bottom) you can view messages recently emptied from the Deleted Items
folder.

Hello Diane,

You are way behind on updates. 12.1.0 (SP1) was a huge update fix. Next
you need to install 12.1.3 then 12.1.4. You'll find links here for the
updaters. thanks for the hint. I will run the installers immediately.

I have used "Options/recover deleted items" in Outlook 2007 on each of my folders to recover the emails.
I guess the OWA "recover deleted items" only recovers the mails deleted from "Deleted Items" folder.
