massive gaps

..This forum is my last resort as no one seems to know whats wrong with my
word. When I type a line of text in a blank document and then press return,
the curser goes all the way to the middle of the page. It will not allow me
to position the curser in between this big gap. Following this, everytime I
type and press return it continues to position the curser half way down the
page and as I get to the bottom of the page the text pushes up. I was using
windows XP before and thought that it had gone faulty so upgraded to windows
2003. Everything was fine until I opened a document that had the spacing
problem and now it has started doing the same thing to my word documents on
windows 2003.

I look forward to someone's help

Hi

Assuming you have Word 2003, do File > Page Setup. On the Layout tab, set
the Vertical Alignment to Top.

Does that solve the problem for this one document? If so, then you need to
ensure that future documents are also fixed. To do that, follow the
instructions here, and set the Vertical Alignment for normal.dot as well:

How to change the default settings for Word documents

Hope this helps.

Your normal.dot file has gotten formatted using the formatting you're
seeing. The easiest way to deal with the problem is to delete or rename
normal.dot. To see where Normal.dot is located, choose Tools - Options -
File Locations - and note the location of User Templates. Close Word, then
open Windows Explorer, and navigate to that location. You'll likely need to
instruct Windows Explorer to display hidden files and folders.
