master and subprojects

does anyone know how to remove the link between the
master project and subproject after the subproject is
inserted to the master project? I tried going to "task
information....advanced tab....remove check mark from
link project". It does not work. I work with Project 2003.

Open the master project.
Select the subproject main task.
Hit the delete key.
You will see a box that says "Delete this task and all subtasks?"
Click OK.

It sounds scary, so if you like try it with some test projects first, but
really this is all you need to do.
If you want to get rid of the entire master project you can do that as well
by simply deleting it. It only contains links to the sub-projects and
whatever tasks you have created in the master project. Deleting it won't
delete any linked sub-projects.
