Master category list

I am about to convert from old XP machine to new Vista home premium.
I am thinking of upgrading From Office 2003 to Office 2007.
I am concerned about being able to transfer/copy my 2003 Outlook contacts &
master category files to Outlook 2007.
I didnt even see any category window on the opened contact card in the 2007
Outlook trial version, only a few color categories which wont do be any good.

Why do you think that? It's the same principle (you can still define your
own categories) with the difference that they now also hold a color.

Sorry, either i didn't see that in the 2007 Office trial version or maybe i
didn't explain correctly.
When i create a new 2003 contact, there is a Category window at the bottom
which allows me to choose a master category. This is what i don't see on the
2007 version.
It's important to me because if i convert to 2007 Office i have about 3000
contacts to transfer over from 2003 Office.

That window doesn't exist anymore. Instead, there's a new Categorize button
on the toolbar.

With a third-party tool you can't copy the Master category List itself from
OL03 to 07. But this should work: Assign all categories to one e-mail, open
that PST file with OL07, right-click on the top folder (Personal Folders)
and then 'Update to Color Categories'.

The Categorize button is now at the top in the Ribbon.

Michael explained how you can migrate your categories from Outlook 2003 to
Outlook 2007 (Outlook 2007 doesn't store categories in the registry
anymore). There is no need to create a separate item with all categories for
it but it won't hurt either and this way you make sure all your categories
are transferred (not only the ones that are currently used).

Michael,
Thks for the email idea for OL07. If the category window doesnt exist, where
will i be able to see the categories assigned to each contact?

Thks, after playing around with Categorize button, i see how to add or modify
categories for each or all contacts.
How do i transfer my Outlook 03 contacts to Outlook 07?

Should read 'without', of course...

Except the typo, it actually should read "without a third-party tool...",
what isn't clear?
