Master Document in Word XP

R

Ricki Miles

I would like to know if the Master Document feature in Word XP has improved
since previous versions. I didn't use it in Word 97 because I was told is
could eventually corrupt the document. If it has improved, in what ways, and
if it has not improved, what do you suggest as an alternative?

TIA,

Ricki

I haven't heard any reports that anything has changed.

G'Day Ricki,
In 15 years of creating User Manuals, using Master/Sub Documents in Word,
I have NEVER had a corrupt Master Document.

Like ALL documents, I suppose they could be corrupted, but they
are not particularly vulnerable.

Master/Sub Documents saved my Bacon in the 'bigredx' fiasco of Word 97
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;162349&Product=wrd)
..
I had tried to create a small User Manual in a single document and lost all
the Screen Shots. Until Service Pack 1 was released, ALL my reports etc
were Master/Sub Docs.

Hope this helps,

Pat Garard.

Pat,

You have been either very lucky or very skilled in your use of this feature.
You may be in the position of an excellent driver who has never had an
accident telling a friend that auto insurance is really a waste of money. I
don't recall that Master Documents has been a Word feature for 15 years but
could be mistaken. I didn't start using Word until Word 3 on the Mac.
