Master file and duplicate tasks in resource usage view

Jack Ferraro PMP

Hi,

I have 5 plans that share a common resource pool through share resource
options. These 5 plans are linked into a master plan to get a roll up of
milestones and a aggregrate view of resource utlizations. However, when I
view the details of the resource usage tasks under each resource name, I see
that numerous tasks are repeated causing the resource to appear
overallocated. I am running MS Project 2002. Any help would be appreciated

Hello Jack,

Duplicate resource assignments are frequently caused by multiple copies
of the same file being attached to the resource pool file. From the
Resource Usage view, add the [Project] field to view which project files
the assignments are coming from.

If you have multiple copies of the files attached, you'll need to open
the pool file read/write (third option in the prompt when you open the
pool.) From the pool file, choose Tools > Resource Sharing > Share
resources. This should show you all project files the resource pool
thinks it is attached to. Break the link for the extra project files.
Save the pool and save any affected project files as well. There is no
need to save the consolidated project file.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
