Master file for projects

Max

Hi i have experience working with MS project.
But i had a couple of questions wherein i could get some good suggestions

File1:
I have projects whose durations spans across 2-15 days or so, so in my plan
i have 3 outline levels defined
the "Outline level 1" will be the Team name
The "Outline level 2" will be project name which acts as "Summary row" for a
project
the Outline level 3 will be sub of the "Outline level2" and would have 5
phases defined like "design, coding, testing, UAT..".

For a month i would update about 20 to 25 projects.
I want to have another file2 defined wherein only the "Outline level 2"
values will be carried with their dates like a master file and it should be
automatic, if i change dates in the File1 the dates should also change in
File2.

Also In File1 when a project is complete i do show that only for that week,
and the next week when i update i delete the completed projects from File1.
But i want File2 to retain that completed project data. Can this be achieved

I am using MS Project professional 2007

Thanks
max

Hi Max

Step 1 - create an original file for each project, which in your discussion
is File 2.

Step 2 - In a new file Insert projects from each individual file. So, this
would be your master file (File 1). In this file, if required you may even
provide dependencies between activities of different projects. The inserted
projects would be linked with the original files. So, any change made here
would be reflected in the individual files and vice-versa. So, you may update
projects in individual files or the master file.

Even after finishing an individual project, the original files will remain
for record purposes.

I hope it helps.

Hi Max

I tnink either I am not understanding your querry well. If you update the
schedule in any one file it will automatically get updated in the other file,
so what is the requirement of the code?
