Master Project

I have created a Master Project from 10 subprojects and linked task between
the subprojects in the Master level. However when delinking the inserted
subprojects by selecting task info and deselecting the link to task, doesn't
work. Opening the task info again shows the box checked again. What is going
on??

To work around this, I created a new Master project by re-inserting the
subprojects again, this time unchecking the link to box. However it still
acts like it's still linked to the original file. Any changes I do to the
inserted file, it still asks if I want to save it in the original file. What
am I doing wrong?

D Pingger,
If I recall correctly (and I may not) I believe there was an issue
related to this with the initial release of Project 2003 and I recall it
was resolved by installing update SP-1.

Thanks, John.

I do have SP1.

Unchecking the "link to" box did not finish the job. I had to go and find
all the external tasks (using the external task filter) and delete them.
Sigh. This, unfortunately is not documented anywhere. I had to learn the hard
way.

Sorry, I'm quite new to Project Server.
May I know what do you mean by master plan?

How can I create a master plan? All I know is just to publish projects
to project server. Please help...

Hi talez ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

A master plan is a consolidated plan incorporating any number of projects.
You might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the
TechTrax ezine, particularly # 17 & 18 on Multiple Projects, at this site:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

I note you have Project Professional being used on a server. If this is
correct, I suggest you use the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24.

information can be seen at this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/.
