Word 2004 has the possibility to produce a masterdocument with several filialdocuments.
I don't see any comparabel menupoint in the new version of word (2008)

Is there anything like that

To access the master document view, first go into Outline View. The
Master Document icon is at the right of the Outlining toolbar. As far as
I know, it works the same, just hidden.

It's not the most reliable feature, in general, just FYI.

why was not a more stabler version of the masterdocument feature made for word 2008? I thought that was one of the goals.

Yes. It was.

The Master Document feature has not changed.

However, the new XML file format finally has the stability to make it
reliable enough to be used.

Since I am one of two people in the world who knows it well enough to use it
in production, I guess I will have a lot more to say about it in coming
weeks and months.

Daiya's caution basically means: The feature requires advanced technical
knowledge of Word and long-document publishing to use successfully. That
knowledge is not yet in the help file.

It is imperative that both the master document and ALL subdocuments are
created in, and always remain in, XML format. The old .doc format never had
the strength for the task.

All subdocuments should be created from the same template, and that must
also be in .dotx or .dotm format.

If you do all of that, one of the most exciting and powerful tools in
Microsoft Word is now read for use. Finally. After 20 years :)

Cheers
