math/equations on 2010

It's great to see this feature on the beta!
So far I've been unable to add an equation to an existing notebook. If
I create a new one though, it seems to work okay. I wonder if this is
intentional, not fully implemented yet, or a bug. More importantly, I
wonder what the workaround is?

Did you convert the existing notebook to 2010 format? If not, right-click
it, go to Properties and click the "Convert to 2010" button.

You can only create and edit equations in notebooks that are in 2010 format.

If you paste an equation into a 2007 format notebook, it will show as image.
The same thing happens if you downgrade a notebook to 2007 format.
