math toolbar not inserting characters

Michael

Has anyone else seen this? Within the last couple of weeks something has
changed on several computers here running Word 2003, where users who open the
Math Toolbar (View>Toolbars>Math) are no longer able to insert these special
characters into the document. Nothing happens when clicking any of the
buttons.

Also, the keyboard shortcuts to make some of these special characters
appear, such as the division symbol, also fail.

The Word build is .8125. In some computers with this build, it still works,
but in others it does not. It may be related to ActiveX update, but this is
only a guess.

Thanks!

Hi Michael,

I'm guessing you're using an add-in. There isn't a math toolbar included with Word 2003, although it's not clear which one :)
http://math-editor.sourceforge.net
http://dessci.com/en/products/mathtype
or others, so it could be a security setting.

Thanks Bob. I think the add-in here is Microsoft Learning Essentials. You
are right, on systems without this add-in the special characters Math Toolbar
is not available. I will try to find versions of Word and LE that play well
together. Something changed on a couple of these computers, as the toolbar
used to work fine, then stopped being available to the users.
