mathtype substitutes random characters in word

When using Mathtype6 in word on a mac, random characters are substituted.
For example -5 becomes !5.
Hopefully someone can solve this problem for me

Yes, the Help section on the Design Science website will solve that for you.

The first question they will ask you is which VERSION of Mac Word are you
using: without that information, none of us can answer.

I am using mathtype 6 and word 2004, 11.5.4( i believe)
the minus sign usually changes to a explanation mark

I'm guessing that the MathType fonts are not installed. Check the MathType
website :)
