max column and row

Is the maximum column name IV ?
If i open a workbook and right arrow until it stops, that's the column name
If i try Insert column it doesn't change so i'm guessing that's the maximum?
likewise max row appears to be 65536?

I presume you are talking about XL2003 or earlier.

Click on Help > Excel Help (F1) and enter "limitations" without
quotes, then click on "specifications and limits", then "worksheet
specifications".

There, you should see the worksheet size limits -- 256 columns in
XL2003. Column 256 is indeed IV.
